Craft fail
Ok... so I attempted something I thought would be fun for my kids, and it turned out a failure. Doh! A bit ago I posted a craft on my facebook page where you fill egg shells with paint and throw them at a canvas. It looked like so much fun and something right up my alley. I found the post over at Growing a Jeweled Rose. She gives some really interesting ways to re-use egg shells, so I highly recommend clicking the link to see all of them. For this one all you need are egg shells, that have been cleaned and dried, paint, tissue paper and a glue stick.
I dressed my children appropriately, gathered my supplies, and went outside. I had been saving my eggs for this occasion, which need to be cracked a certain way for this to work. My children helped me fill the eggs and seal them up with the glue stick and tissue paper.
I figured my children would enjoy this since they like coloring and helping mommy paint. It never crossed my mind that my 2 yr. old little boy would just crack the egg in his hands...>.< I didn't get to get pictures of this because my son had paint everywhere and I got it all over my hands so I couldn't touch my camera until I got them clean, it was a little chaotic for just a moment haha. After cracking the eggs in his little hands, he wasn't very interested in throwing them.
My 3 1/2 year old couldn't quite throw them hard enough for them to crack open. So I threw a few just to loosen them up so that the shells would crack easier when Zoe threw them.
All in all it was fun, I just thought the children would enjoy it more than they did. The end result was messy and had bits of egg shell all over it so I didn't even take a picture. Oh well, it was colorful and afterwards they got to play with the hosepipe..so they were happy.
I'm looking forward to trying this one! You could also make some glitter eggs to throw at the canvas to introduce a new medium.
