Auction for Parkinson's Awareness Month

If you didn't already know, April is Parkinson's Awareness month. Around 60,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with Parkinson's each year, adding to the millions worldwide who already suffer from this disease. For those who don't know, Parkinson's is a progressive brain disorder. Neurons begin to malfunction or die off, including ones that contain dopamine which controls movement and coordination. When a large percentage of these neurons no longer work is when a lot of symptoms become noticeable. But there is much more to this disorder, if you would like to read more about it some helpful information can be found here:http://www.pdf.org/about_pd

I'm telling you all this because my daddy was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2012. My daddy is a man who has always worked with his hands, he's crafty, he's a handyman, he can fix things, he can landscape, and he used to be a farmer. He's always been a wonderful father to me and my sisters. He is a great papa to his grandchildren and I want him around for a long time, so that they can get to know what a magnificent man he is. I know it's been a difficult journey for him and my mom, especially since he lost his job.

I participated in a charity auction for March for Babies on another FB page: Tutus by Tam and it inspired me to host my own charity auction. I would like to support Parkinson's Disease Foundation and the National Parkinson Foundation. It would be wonderful to help fund research so that advances can be made in getting to know this disease better and finding better treatments or maybe even a cure.

I am an artist/crafter, I make hair accessories, paintings and jewelry. I would like to hold an auction on my facebook page to sell some of my items. A large portion of my earnings from this auction will be donated to these two organizations. If I guage enough interest and raise more than expected I will donate over half of the final total. For the month of April any donation made to PDF will be matched by the Light of Day foundation!!

If you could please spread the word, it would greatly be appreciated. If you would like to see what all I will be offering in the auction you can go to my facebook page here: Kids and Crafts
Or if you would just like to make a donation straight to one of these organizations you can go here: Parkinson Disease Foundation ,  National Parkinson Foundation

Thank you so much for reading, I hope you will help me donate to a great cause.

  1. I'm so proud of you and your auction. I think you did great on it and I think it's so sweet what your dad said about buying your zebra paintings. You and I are daddy's girls for sure and we have some good ones!
